Siegel Historic Smooth goat leathers are a high quality, yet economically priced bookbinding leather. The authentic grain pattern is considered smooth (no grain manipulation) which gives them an historic look and feel, similar to calf or kangaroo leather. This leather is specially split to approximately .65 mm with no loss in strength, meaning very little or no paring is required. It is a popular choice for fine bindings and/or the repair of books. They are also great leathers for non-traditional artists' books. These goat leathers are 100% vegetable tanned and readily accept blind tooling and gold stamping. Note: Obsidian is not a deep black and has a hint of blue in the color.
