Our wooden sewing frames for sale on this page are in less than perfect condition. Some have been either used in Hollander's workshops, and show some signs of wear. Others came to us with slightly chipped dowels, while others have various degrees of mismatched wood components. None of these or other conditions affect the use of the sewing frames. The image below is a close approximation of the style you will receive.
Sewing frames are used for sewing text blocks on tapes or cords. Sewing tapes are normally secured under the platform slot with tape keys, cord keys, or other makeshift methods. Simply tighten the crossbar with the adjusting nuts to remove the slack in the tape or cords. The distance between the screws is 12" and the height to the crossbar is 12", enabling you to sew most oversize books. Easy assembly. Hand Bookbinding by Aldren Watson
